Bravery Isn’t Always a Battle Cry

Bravery isn't always a battle cry.
Sometimes, it's walking onto a runway and taking off your wig.

When Robin Roberts was undergoing treatment for cancer, she made a decision that has stayed with me ever since.

She shaved her head.

Then, she did something even braver.
She walked the runway at a charity event, and mid-stride, she took off her wig.

That wasn't just a gesture.
That was leadership.

It was a moment of profound vulnerability.
And an act of radical honesty.

She didn't do it to prove anything.
She did it to live her truth.

And in doing so, she gave others permission to do the same.

Braver leadership comes in many forms.

Yes, we need bravery in courtrooms and boardrooms.
But we also need bravery in hospital rooms, on runways, and in front of the mirror.

Sometimes, standing brave means standing fully as yourself.
And that's what Robin did.

Robin told me when she took off her wig, she said to herself, “This is me. Take me as I am.”

So here's the question I'll leave you with:
What would it look like to live your truth, even when it's uncomfortable?
